Fogging and Misting for Greenhouses: NDJ by Rivulis Super Fogger

Why Fogging and Misting Matters in Greenhouses

Managing temperature and humidity inside a greenhouse is one of the most critical factors in crop health and yield. During warm periods, temperatures can rise rapidly, causing heat stress, wilting, and reduced growth rates. Fogging and misting systems offer an efficient, low-energy solution — using the evaporative cooling effect of ultra-fine water droplets to reduce air temperature, raise relative humidity, and create the ideal growing environment.

NDJ by Rivulis has developed a range of foggers specifically engineered for greenhouse applications, combining precision droplet technology with practical, low-maintenance design.

Key Applications

  • Cooling — Evaporative cooling reduces greenhouse air temperature by several degrees, protecting crops during hot weather without the energy cost of mechanical refrigeration.
  • Humidity control — Maintaining the correct relative humidity reduces plant stress, prevents tip burn, and supports consistent growth rates.
  • Propagation — Fine misting creates the ideal microclimate for cuttings and seedlings, keeping foliage moist without waterlogging growing media.
  • Pesticide and chemical application — The fogger's fine droplet output makes it suitable for applying pesticides, fungicides, and disinfectants evenly across the crop canopy.

NDJ by Rivulis Super Fogger

The NDJ Super Fogger is the flagship fogging solution for greenhouse operations. Available in 2-way and 4-way outlet configurations, it is designed to deliver very small droplets — ideal for both cooling and pesticide application — with minimal foliage wetting during pulsed operation.

Key Features

  • Built-in Leakage Prevention Device (LPD) — prevents dripping when the system is off, protecting crops from localised overwatering and reducing disease risk. Available in high-pressure (blue cover) and medium-pressure (green cover) models.
  • Unique built-in filter — provides extra protection against blockages without the need for additional inline components.
  • Chemical-resistant materials — suitable for use with fertilisers, pesticides, and disinfectants.
  • Flexible connections — multi-connections for PE pipes and 3/8" thread for PVC pipes, accommodating different greenhouse pipe layouts.
  • Easy installation and service — minimal components and a straightforward design reduce installation time and ongoing maintenance.

Super Fogger Variants

  • 2 Way High Pressure (RA3244) — two-outlet configuration for targeted coverage
  • 4 Way High Pressure (RA3245) — four-outlet configuration for wider coverage per head
  • 2 Way with Integral LPD and Base — 3/8" thread (RA3245B) — for PVC pipe systems
  • 2 Way with Integral LPD and Base — 4/7mm tube (RA3245C) — for PE micro-tube systems
  • 4 Way with Integral LPD and Base — 4/7mm tube (RA3245D) — four-outlet PE tube version

NDJ by Rivulis 4 Way Fogger

The NDJ 4 Way Fogger is a versatile, high-performance fogger delivering an extra-fine droplet size of 55 microns at 4.0 bar — ensuring precise water distribution and excellent coverage across the crop canopy.

Key Features

  • 55-micron droplet size at 4.0 bar — ultra-fine mist for efficient evaporative cooling and even coverage
  • Broad range of flow rates — catering to different precipitation rates and greenhouse sizes
  • Leakage Prevention Device (LPD) — simultaneous startup and shutdown across the system, preventing drip-off between irrigation cycles
  • PE and PVC connections — flexible installation options for different pipe systems
  • Chemical-resistant materials — suitable for pesticide and disinfectant application
  • "T" assembly option — specifically designed for pesticide application

4 Way Fogger Variants

  • 4 Way Push Fit on Cross — 28 L/h, 4/7mm tube (RA32441)
  • 4 Way Push Fit on Cross — 28 L/h, LPD, 3/8" thread (RA32442)
  • 4 Way Push Fit on Cross — 28 L/h, LPD, M11 thread (RA32443)
  • Single Push Fit Fogger (RA3245A) — for individual plant or targeted applications

Understanding the LPD (Leakage Prevention Device)

The LPD is a critical component in any fogging system. Without it, water continues to drip from fogger heads after the system shuts off — wetting foliage, creating disease pressure, and wasting water. The NDJ Super LPD range offers three pressure options to match your system:

  • Black Low-Pressure Super LPD — for microsprinkler systems
  • Green Medium-Pressure Super LPD — for fogger systems operating at medium pressure
  • Blue High-Pressure Super LPD — for fogger systems operating at high pressure

The Super LPD features adjustable opening and closing pressure, a modular design compatible with all NDJ micro-sprinklers and foggers, and an easy-dismantle design for simple cleaning and maintenance. It maintains minimal pressure loss even at high flow rates and uses a one-stage opening mechanism — fully open or fully closed — for reliable, consistent operation.

Choosing the Right Fogger for Your Greenhouse

Application Recommended Product
General cooling and humidity control Super Fogger 2 Way or 4 Way
Maximum coverage per head 4 Way Fogger (55 micron, 28 L/h)
Pesticide / chemical application 4 Way Fogger with "T" assembly or Super Fogger
Propagation and cuttings Super Fogger (pulsed operation, minimal foliage wetting)
PE pipe systems Super Fogger with 4/7mm base (RA3245C or RA3245D)
PVC pipe systems Super Fogger with 3/8" base (RA3245B) or 4 Way Fogger (RA32442)

System Design Considerations

For best results with a greenhouse fogging system, consider the following:

  • Operating pressure — ensure your water supply or pump can deliver the required pressure consistently. The 4 Way Fogger is rated at 4.0 bar for optimal droplet size.
  • Filtration — fine fogger nozzles are susceptible to blockage. A good quality filter upstream of the fogger system is essential. The built-in filter in the Super Fogger provides additional protection, but a main line filter should always be installed.
  • Pulsed operation — running foggers in short pulses rather than continuously gives droplets time to evaporate, maximising the cooling effect and minimising foliage wetting.
  • LPD selection — match the LPD pressure rating to your system operating pressure. Using the wrong LPD can result in premature opening or failure to close.
  • Spacing — fogger spacing will depend on greenhouse width, ridge height, and the coverage pattern of the chosen head. Our team can advise on layout for your specific structure.
